About

Prosperous Mountain Dragon and Lion Dance (PMDLD), also known as Canberra Lion Dance, was founded in 2007 by David Wong — a Malaysian-born lion dancer who moved to Canberra for work and found no local troupe. Starting with a small group of youths, PMDLD grew to become Canberra's first and only locally-based non-profit lion dance troupe. Endorsed by all three major ACT multicultural peak bodies — the CMCF, FCAACT and ACTCAA — the troupe is a recognised pillar of Canberra's multicultural community. The team is fully volunteer-run, charges no participation fees, holds public liability insurance, and trains every Sunday in Mitchell. Performances range from shop blessings and corporate events to school workshops, airport welcomes (including a Singapore Airlines arrival ceremony), and government functions. CNY is their busiest season, with 14+ performances locked in annually. A notable feature is the team's intergenerational makeup — children, parents, and grandparents all perform together.
