Phap Hoa Lion Dance (PHLD) is Adelaide's dominant lion dance team — a non-profit founded over a decade ago as part of the Phap Hoa Temple Youth Group (GDPT Phap Hoa), a Vietnamese Buddhist Youth Association based in Pennington. With a team of 40+ performers, instrumentalists and support crew training weekly at Phap Hoa Buddhist Temple, PHLD delivers over 150 performances annually. The team holds exclusive performing contracts with SkyCity Adelaide, Rundle Mall, Adelaide Arcade and Adelaide Airport — making them the most visible lion dance presence in the state. All proceeds are donated back to Phap Hoa Buddhist Temple and the youth group. A strong community ethos underpins the team: they have donated over $55,000 to bushfire relief and regularly perform for aged care facilities and schools. Their 2024 CNY schedule extended as far as Todd Mall in Alice Springs, NT.
